under the auspices of CIVICUS in Europe

Dear Civil Colleagues,
One of the main programmes of CIVICUS in Europe is the "Building Bridges of Democracy" project using River Danube as a symbol what connects and encourages us to respond effectively to the new challenges NGOs in the region and beyond are faced with. This process-like project has started in Vienna in 2000 and since then we have visited Bratislava (Slovakia), Budapest-Szentendre (Hungary), returned to Vienna earlier this year and now we are inviting you to join the next phase taking place in Novi Sad (Serbia and Montenegro).
The purpose of the current phase of the project is to develop an understanding and awareness of civil society in the region, contribute to the evolving democratic processes especially in South Eastern Europe and promote the idea of European integration.
As you see from the enclosed programme this phase of the project includes not only a conference-type event but a site visit to the Serbian/Croatian border region, to Backa Palanka and Ilok, settlements on the opposing banks of River Danube connected by a bridge.
