BACKGROUND

The Annual General Assembly of the European Foundation Centre is going to take place on 1-3 June, 2003 in Lisbon, Portugal. It is now a tradition that CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation organises a satellite event of the General Assembly which this year will be hosted by Kumi Naidoo, Secretary General of CIVICUS:

Please join us at the European Foundation Centre Conference for an informal briefing on the theme:
"Transnational Civil Society: Issues, Debates and Trends"

The briefing will focus on how civil society around the world has dealt with the consequences and transformations post September 11, 2001. We propose to examine the issues, debates and trends emerging from a world that has been changed politically, economically and socially. How is transnational Civil Society responding to these challenges? What challenges in turn does this pose for Philanthropy? Please come and debate these issues and trends, including CIVICUS responses, in a lively and informal discussion.

The EFC Conference hotel (the Hotel Le Meridien Park Atlantic Lisboa) from 7:30 to 9:30 on Saturday May 31, 2003.
